Project Management Tips for Taking Training From Classroom to e-Learning: Lumps, Bumps, and Bruises

Presented by: Diane Elkins

You have a training program that you’ve delivered to hundreds of employees what seems likes thousands of times, and it works to perfection. It seems like it would be easy to convert it to an e-Learning course – but then you realize that only 30% of the content is in the materials, and the rest is in the instructors’ minds. How do you get that out? Then, as you talk to the SMEs, you realize that everyone has a different way of teaching the material, and that no two people agree on some of the primary teaching points.

In this session, participants will hear different case studies that illustrate some of the unexpected difficulties in converting ILT to e-Learning. You’ll take away a five-step model, and valuable checklists that will help you understand the risks and challenges up front. The model outlines the process, and provides tools to assist with successfully analyzing, managing, and leading an e-Learning conversion project. At the end of the session, you will feel confident you can plan risks associated with this type of project, and outline mitigation strategies.

In this session, you will learn:

  • The differences in the two types of courses for stakeholders, environment, and the audience
  • To ask the right questions up front to effectively define and plan a conversion project
  • To spot and plan for risks early in the project
  • To apply the five-step model to any e-Learning conversion project
