Interest Group Program!

Have you ever considered a career in the federal service? This
engaging, fact-filled session will provide details about the wide
variety of federal government employment opportunities that are
available for instructors, curriculum designers and developers,
training technicians, teachers, educational researchers and other
related support staff nationwide and around the world.

Learn:

• How to find out about federal government job vacancies in Florida
and other U.S. locations
• How to navigate through the federal hiring process
• Mistakes that federal job applicants commonly make
• Tips for standing out from the crowd in the hiring process

Featured Speaker: Special Agent, Thomas Ackerman
Tom Ackerman has 22 years of career
experience with the federal government. He
presently serves as the National Training
Manager for the U.S. Department of Agriculture
Office of Inspector General (USDA-OIG) and as
an Adjunct Instructor at the Federal Law
Enforcement Training Center, U.S. Department
of Homeland Security. For more than 15 years,
Tom has spoken at conferences and universities nationwide about
federal careers and the federal hiring process.

Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State
University in Detroit and a Master of Science degree from
Michigan State University. Tom is the author of 3 best-selling
books related to careers with the FBI and other federal law
enforcement agencies. Tom is an active member of the ASTD
Northeast Florida chapter and frequently attends CMSIG events.

ASTD Competency Model:
The Model emphasizes: (1) foundational
competencies, or those that are important to
everyone in the field, and (2) the specific areas
of expertise (AOEs), which are the specialized
knowledge and actions required by specific
roles. This month’s program supports the new
ASTD foundational competency of “Industry
Knowledge” and the competency model
