Learning Design in Second Life
Presented by: Dr. Sue Ebbers
We have come a long way from the early days of programmable learning. We are on the cusp of an exciting future for technology-based learning! Such learning venues now exist that include:
-
Simulations for learning that can help with cognitive and even behavioral skill development,
-
Games for learning, health and change which can elicit strong learning outcomes while the learners have fun, and even
-
Virtual worlds (“VW”) for learning, which can include game-based learning as well as virtual face-to-face training experiences and asynchronous/automated interactive learning!
There are well over 100 out there that each provide their own spin on the VW thing! One of the more popular VW’s that concurrently has had a large education-related following is Second Life.
In this informational presentation to those who are at least familiar with Second Life, you will walk away with the following:
-
A better understanding of how Second Life is and can be used for workplace-related learning.
-
A visual portrayal of some workplace learning-related events in Second Life.
-
A better understanding, along with some visuals, of the kinds of interactive learning that can be accomplished in Second Life.
-
The kinds of skills required to generate an effective learning intervention within Second Life.
-
Ways to find contractors who can work in Second Life to develop the learning events you design.
