VP PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT


Opportunity Overview

The Vice President of Professional Development oversees the chapter’s professional development initiatives, including professional development workshops, mentor program, CPLP awareness sessions and the chapter’s yearly conference event.

What you will be doing as a volunteer

  • Attending board meetings, board advance, chapter programs, and regular committee meetings
  • Becoming familiar with the bylaws, policies and procedures
  • Representing the chapter professionally and ethically
  • Participating in ATD International Conference (ICE) and the ATD Chapter Leadership Conference (ALC); if feasible

Responsibilities

  • Establish area goals to support Chapter mission vision and strategies.
  • Recruit and orient Professional Development Team Members.
  • Help Professional Development Team members understand how their role impacts the chapter as a whole by communicating goals and plans.
  • Communicate regularly with Professional Development Team members to assist with respective objectives and initiatives.
  • Create and submit area budget by designated deadlines and adhere to budget throughout term.
  • Collaborates with other Executive Board and Chair members as appropriate
  • Identify a successor to fulfill role after term completion
  • Create succession plans board role
  • Be a positive representative of ATD

Time Commitment
  • Attending board meetings: 2 hours plus travel time
  • Attending annual conference committee meetings (via conference call and or/in person): 1-4 hours
  • Attending CPLP committee meetings (via conference call and/or in person): 1-2 hours
  • Corresponds and or meets with Mentor committee 1-2 hours for status updates, planning, and events related to program.
  • Attend mentor program kickoff meeting and completion program meeting during designated months: 2-4 hours

VP Finance - 2018


Opportunity Overview

The Vice President of Finance manages the operational finances of the chapter. 

What you will be doing as a volunteer

You will coordinate the budget and operational issues with other board members, as well as administrative services. You will assure that chapter operations are in compliance with ATD's Chapter Affiliation Requirements (CARE). This position oversees the volunteers for Treasurer, Sponsorship, and the chapter website.


Desired Strengths/Interests

  • Member of ATD and chapter
  • Demonstrated experience in budget design, fiscal responsibility and accounting practices
  • Good understanding of operations and finance
  • Ability to work with administrative services
  • Time available to fully participate in chapter and board meetings, and represent the chapter regionally and nationally


Time Commitment

  • 4 hours annually for planning.
  • 1 - 2 hours monthly for Board of Directors meetings.
  • Conducting internal review with committee: 6 hours (one-time annually)
  • Conducting external review with CPA firm: 6 hours (bi-annually)
  • Communicating with administrative office about routine issues: 1 hour monthly
  • Record keeping and financial book upkeep: 2 hours monthly

SOCIAL MEDIA CHAIR


Opportunity Overview

The Social Media Chair  ensures the quality and timeliness of social media entries on  social media sites, including Twitter, LinkedIn Facebook, etc. 

Time Commitment

  • 3 hours for monthly chapter and SIG/GIG meetings
  • 2 hours preparation

Responsibilities

  • Create a comprehensive social media strategy to increase visibility, membership and traffic at ATD.
  • Establish social media goals to support Chapter strategies.
  • Implement and manage social media programs.
  • Experiment with new and alternative ways to leverage social media activities.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, trends and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to increasing the use of social media.

ANNUAL EVENT CHAIR


Opportunity Overview

The Annual Event Chair leads the Annual Event committee which works to design and deliver the ATD NEFL Annual Event.

Time Commitment

  • 2 hours monthly for committee meetings (weekly calls one month out from event)

  • 10 hours monthly for independent work to complete tasks (more hours one month prior to the event)


Responsibilities

  • Establish goals for the Annual Event committee
  • Creates the project plan for the Annual Event
  • Recruits team members for the Annual Event committee
  • Oversees the signing of the Contract
  • Works with the Annual Event committee to plan, deliver and evaluate the Annual Event including:
    • Soliciting and communicating with speakers
    • Creating the theme and communication pieces
    • Securing the meeting place
    • Monitor expenses

E-LEARNING CHAIR


Opportunity Overview

The e-Learning Chair is responsible for providing monthly e-Learning focused programs for members and professionals in the training and development community that will enhance, improve, and cultivate the skills of Workplace Learning Professionals.

Time Commitment

  • 3 hours for monthly board meetings

  • 3 hours quarterly for area Leadership Team meetings

  • 3 hours for monthly teleconference/ meeting with Programming area Chairs


Responsibilities

  • Work with Chapter e-Learning members to plan, oversee, and evaluate Chapter meetings including: soliciting presenters, securing meeting places, acquiring and operating audio/visual equipment.

  • Work with VP, Programming to secure program meeting place within budget.

  • Stay informed of current industry trends and experts to evaluate and recommend presenters for chapter programs.

  • Establish area goals to support Chapter mission, vision, and strategies.

  • Communicate regularly with Chapter Programs Team members in holding them accountable for their respective goals.

MONTHLY PROGRAM CHAIR


Opportunity Overview

The Program Chair is responsible for selecting and coordinating monthly chapter programs, based on the needs of the membership and the strategic focus of the training and development field.

Time Commitment

  • 3 hours for monthly board meetings

  • 3 hours quarterly for area Leadership Team meetings

  • 3 hours for monthly teleconference/meeting with Programming area Chairs

  • 10-12 additional hours per month to perform specific duties of this area and to lead volunteers


Responsibilities

CPLP Committee


Opportunity Overview
The CPLP Committee promotes local awareness and support for the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential. Our committee provides regularly scheduled awareness sessions for those interested in gaining information on the CPLP. We strive to support CPLP candidates through the sharing of resources, training material, and the formation of study groups.

What you will be doing as a volunteer
Volunteers may provide support to the CPLP Chair by assisting with quarterly CPLP Awareness Sessions, constructing or supporting CPLP study groups, or gathering resource information to support the program.

Additionally, we are looking for CPLP credential holders to support our quarterly awareness sessions by speaking with the interest group about the CPLP and answer questions.

  • Volunteers: 2-4 hours per month

Member Involvement Committee


Opportunity Overview
Engage current ATD NEFL members that are interested in being more involved in the Chapter.

What you will be doing as a volunteer
This committee welcomes participants attending Chapter Events; solicits volunteers for volunteer openings on committees, special projects and event teams; conducts icebreakers as needed; plans and manages the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event; manages the Chapter Ambassadors; interacts with ATD NEFL Board Members to keep volunteer postings and communications to Chapter Members current; connects the Chapter to Community Involvement Opportunities.


Desired Strengths/Interests 
Good communication and social skills, enjoys meeting new people and engaging in conversations with others, friendly, dependable, meets deadlines and commitments, ability/willingness to speak in front of groups, self-starter, takes initiative.

Time Commitment
Average is 2 hours a month in addition to attending a committee meeting every other month, for approximately 90 minutes.

Additional Information
Need 2 additional volunteers to join current committee members.

Career Management Group Committee

Opportunity Overview
Help plan, organize and facilitate monthly Career Management meetings.

What you will be doing as a volunteer
This committee is responsible for monthly Career Management meetings. Necessary tasks include determining and securing the topic/speaker, working with event location on logistics, creating the email invite to members, setting up/breaking down for meeting, facilitating parts of the meeting such as the icebreaker, introduction of speaker, etc.


Desired Strengths/Interests 
Friendly, organized, dependable, meets deadlines and commitments, ability/willingness to speak in front of groups, self-starter, takes initiative.

Time Commitment
Average is 1 hour a month in addition to attending a majority of the monthly CM meetings.

Additional Information
Need 2 additional volunteers to join current committee members.

E-learning Group Committee


Opportunity Overview
The eSIG committee hosts a monthly breakfast event for members interested in all aspects of learning technology.

What you will be doing as a volunteer

  • Help plan and facilitate the monthly event
  • Proofread the website announcements
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations
  • Facilitate icebreakers
  • Introduce guest speakers


Time Commitment
Average is 2-4 hours a month including attending a committee meeting as necessary.

Monthly Programs Committee


Opportunity Overview
This committee plans the location, agenda, speaker for the monthly luncheon meeting. We are in charge of offering quality relevant content to the membership at large.

What you will be doing as a volunteer
We meet only as needed, approximately four times per year. Each member weighs in on their opinions of possible presenters for programs months in advance. There are opportunities to gain exposure by making announcements at the monthly meetings. Each member has one small part that makes up the big picture of each monthly event i.e. booking location, planning agenda, updating slide deck, assimilating feedback forms, etc.


Desired Strengths/Interests 
Willingness to take a small part of each month’s necessary behind-the-scenes.

Time Commitment
½ – 1 hour per month plus quarterly 1 hour committee meeting.

Chapter Ambassadors


Volunteer Description
We have opportunities to be an ambassador for our chapter.
If you can volunteer to help out at our monthly meetings or special assignments, please contact VP of Membership.



Support Committee


Opportunity Overview
We are responsible for supporting chapter events and activities by making sure the contact information (particularly the email addresses) are current.

What you will be doing as a volunteer
Contact members listed from an Excel spreadsheet (call or try to find them by calling employment number, associates, or use of Social Media). Let them know that the email address is not working and if they would still be interested in receiving emails from ATD NEFL for the chapter events.


Desired Strengths/Interests 

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Resourcefulness in locating the contact

Time Commitment
2 to 5 hours per month to follow-up on contacts. Disabled email list is initially large due to support committee turnover. After training by Chapter Administrator and resolving the email issues, the amount of time should not exceed 2 hours monthly.

Additional Information
We have openings on this committee for 2 volunteers. Alternating months or use as back-up for conflicting schedules.
